Anya Gallaccio 'Red On Green' ''2012 '' Installation

 

 

 

 

 

 

Anya Gallaccio is a British installation artist, She was born in 1963; she studied at Kingston polytechnic and at Goldsmiths College in London. Anya works with organic materials and the main aspect to her artwork is transformation and change, she wants the viewer to feel the emotion that she portrays within her work, this means that the venue and space are both an important aspect of her installations, because she uses organic materials and these change and transform through time she uses  photographic documentation to show the change of eroding and decaying natural materials, depending on what space there in depends on how long it takes the flowers or plants to erode and decay, for example if you visited the exhibition at the beginning of the week and then again at the end of the week, you would have seen the change and transformation that natural organic materials take.

  This is one of my favorite installations called 'Red on Green' 2012 it is a gradual decay and eroding of 10,000 red roses, which were laid like a beautiful field of red roses upon the gallery floor.   

Red On Green is an aggressive gesture that holds a mirror to society’s concept of beauty and our displacement of nature.                                      

  Red On Green is a beautiful installation showing a field of beautiful red roses at the first look, but once its starts to decay do you see a different beauty or ugliness? for myself i believe as it decays throughout its time at the gallery it becomes more beautiful showing its aging through decay and eroding, natural materials have true beauty when they start to decay they become fragile and delicate and at a touch they could crumble and fall apart, in a way like human emotions. what is beauty really?, everyone has their own opinions.
