Sycamore beauty

Sycamore necklace, why use real sycamore seeds?
Because they become fragile and transient when they have started to decay. Things can be beautiful even even they won't last forever, forever is a long time.

Organic rose petals | True beauty

A beauty in something that decays. It reminds me that we don't live forever nor can nature... Everything has an end, beauty will remain.

Rose petal jewellery

At the beginning of my studio practice i started playing around with real organic rose petals, i got a bouquet of roses from my boyfriend and I left them to dry out and decay they were so beautiful in how they decayed and change on colour and become so fragile to touch. At a touch they could crumble, I decided to start sewing them together to make necklaces. As a piece of jewellery doesn't have to last forever, in order to be valuable to me, in fact this is more precious as they were given to me.

Thoughts..

Transience is the whole idea for this part of my project. The idea of something temporary, in order for something to have value it does not always need to last forever... Value does not mean money to me it means something that I'll cherish whether it lasts for an hour or a lifetime.

The idea of Transience

The whole of idea of having something that is transient, this is a Sketchbook page, photocopies of real organic skeleton sycamore seeds drawn over with pen to emphasise the lines and details.
Detailed | Fragile | Delicate

Sycamore inspired designs

Finishing of some designs today in the studio.. Inspired by beautiful skeleton sycamore seeds, the beginning of something beautiful yet inspired by an organic material that has nearly died, that has decayed and become fragile and delicate.

Designs..

Starting to design more in my book :) inspired by some beautiful skeleton sycamore seeds I found along my walk the other day. Nature will always be a huge inspiration to my designs and work.

Decay | Erode | Beauty | Nature | My thoughts...

                  Decay | Erode | Beauty | Nature

Within the decay and death of nature it is thought as ugly, sad and negative. Why does one feel negative towards decay and death? When it can be so beautiful, with its delicate and fragile forms, while decay is often associated to rotting and bad smells this is of course undesirable but the question is what is desirable? The beauty within the life of nature is immediately seen as an allurement, is it the colors, the smells, the feel?  What is the beauty within nature, this could mean something different to everyone. To me decay is beautiful, this doesn't me i dislike the life in nature, when a flower is in full bloom or when a leaf is still green, but for me theirs something about the decaying organic forms, they tell a story they have lived, everything has to come to an end at some point, this does not mean it ends ugly, when something is fragile and delicate it has to be looked after it is more precious, I always ask what does value mean to you? to me its something that i cherish and will love forever, not money. In order for something to have value doesn't always mean it has to last forever, and does not mean you wont have it in your memory forever.

Textures

These images were taken this morning in Alexandra Park , to inspire my jewellery designs for my current project.

Beauty in the Park.

Had a lovely inspirational walk in the park, this morning, such a beautiful sunshine  morning in Hastings. I always find the park peaceful and quite, always helps me think, i wonder if this is why Andy Goldsworthy loves nature so much, i know for myself its one of the
reasons i adore it so much. Peaceful, relaxing, quiet, beautiful weather, wildlife, smells and all the
beautiful textures and nature, within the park there are lots of leaves, trees and wood decaying and
eroding. I always love the smells of the park and nature after it has been raining it always smells
fresh and clean, helps me think in a tranquil environment.

Decay | Erode | Beauty

Decaying flowers show true beauty.

Bouquet of decaying and wilting flowers, even though they are decaying and eroding does not mean they are not colorful, although the colors are dimmed they are still there. Flowers take time to wilt, decay, erode, corrode, faid and droop, just a few words to describe dying flowers, it might sound like decaying and eroding is ugly, but in my eyes it is true beauty to watch nature take its course and fade away through time.

Beautiful decaying flowers

I was given a beautiful bouquet of flowers and since then i have been watching them decay and wilt in time, i love watching to see how they change over time, these photographs have been and are the inspiration for my jewellery designs, at first they were bright and colorful but they are starting to lose there colour and they are fragile and delicate.
